Sources: Rangers 27-yr-old starts looking for a new club, set to quit Ibrox in weeks

Jason Holt is looking for a new club as Rangers prepare to let him go in a matter of weeks, Football Insider understands.

The central midfielder, 27, is out of contract at the end of May after spending this season on loan at SPL rivals St Johnstone.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider the club are looking to get Holt off their wage bill and have no plans to extend his current deal.

He has almost certainly played his last game for the Glasgow giants amid the strong possibility the SPL season may end prematurely in any case.

Holt has slipped down the pecking order at Ibrox in the last two years and has not played a single match since Steven Gerrard took over as manager.

He spent last season on loan at Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town in England’s League one before joining St Johnstone on deadline day last summer.

Holt made a sound impression at Fleetwood, where he made 29 league starts among 36 appearances in all competitions and manager Barton spoke of his eagerness to sign him permanently.

A serious knee injury appeared to have scuppered that but Holt has bounced back this season to make 17 appearances for the Saints, including 15 SPL starts.

The midfielder was signed from Hearts by ex-Gers boss Mark Warburton in the summer of 2015.

Capped by Scotland seven times at Under-21 level, Holt has made 115 appearances for Rangers, which have included 15 goals and 19 assists.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that Toure is playing an integral role in potential Ibrox transfer.
