‘Rangers and Leeds to spearhead stunning multi-club network’ amid ‘huge’ claim
Rangers are under new ownership at last after 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavanagh bought a majority stake at Ibrox.
The US consortium also own Leeds United, who were recently promoted to the Premier League and also have a huge fanbase worldwide.
Rangers banked a club-record £67million in commercial revenue for the 2023-24 campaign – double digit growth on the previous season.
There are various high-profile figures invested in 49ers Enterprises, including actors Will Ferrell and Russell Crowe as well as American golfing stars Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted higher commercial revenues are “there to be taken” for the 49ers at Rangers.

49ers told to kick off multi-club project at Rangers
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has backed the 49ers to monetise Rangers’ global fanbase by kicking off a multi-club network.
The most famous example of multi-club ownership is the City Football Group – which incorporates the likes of Man City, New York City and Melbourne City, among others.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “If they can unlock the commercial opportunity Rangers have globally, it’s there to be taken for the 49ers.
“I think they are only scratching the surface in terms of their international fanbase.
“If they can monetise that fanbase and get them involved, you could have a multi-club situation with Rangers going forward.
“When I was in Australia, they were trying to get a team going for the start of the A-League.
“They’ve got to get back to that progressive thinking. With Rangers and Leeds, these are two huge brands that could head up a pyramid.”

Rangers make Coady move
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (9 June) that Rangers have enquired to Leicester City about signing Conor Coady.
Coady has a year left on his current deal but would have to take a wage cut if he stays with Championship side Leicester.
The Glasgow giants have made initial contact over a deal for the 32-year-old.
