Rangers are spending money they don’t have amid emphatic Alfredo Morelos claim – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has insisted Rangers are spending money at an unsustainable rate given that they appear unable to sell the likes of Alfredo Morelos.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said that the Gers don’t have the money to be making signings without first selling players.

On Friday (15 July) Rangers confirmed the signing of Malik Tillman, 20, on loan from Bayern Munich.

The USA international marks Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, with Antonio Colak and Rabbi Matondo arriving on fee-paying deals for a combined £5m.

Only Joe Aribo and Cedric Itten have left for a fee this summer.

However, this site revealed on Saturday (16 July) that 22-year-old full-back Calvin Bassey could be Ajax-bound amid advanced talks over a deal that may be worth £20m with add-ons.

But Rangers don’t have the money to be buying without offloading the likes 26-year-old striker Morelos, claims McAvennie.

They’re making all these signings and nobody is going out,” he told Football Insider.

People think that’s because they’ve got all this money when they’ve not. Nobody has that kind of money to keep buying and not sell. Even Celtic don’t have that kind of money.

Rangers

So they keep bringing these players in and I know they’re not so expensive but it’s the wages. You’ve got to get people out the door. I don’t see where they’re going to get the money from.

They should be trying to get [Alfredo] Morelos fit, play him for the first few games and sell him if they want money. He’s the one that’s going to get the most money if you get him fit and scoring goals they could sell him by January. But at the moment nobody will take him because he’s just not bothered.
