Rangers at risk of falling into ‘very serious spiral’ – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness believes Rangers could risk falling into a “very serious spiral” if they were to sack Philippe Clement.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Scottish giants need to focus on sorting out their boardroom issues.
Rangers have endured a difficult start to the season as they currently sit five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership table.
They were also beaten 4-1 at Ibrox by Lyon in their latest Europa League game, striking a significant blow to their chances of reaching the knockout rounds.
Former director John Gilligan is temporarily filling in as chairman after John Bennett stood down on health grounds last month, while they are also without a CEO following James Bisgrove’s departure earlier this year.
Rangers would add more turmoil by sacking Philippe Clement
Wyness believes Rangers need to stick by Clement and not add any more turmoil.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s going to take results for him to feel secure.
“The game against St. Johnstone was hardly shattering for him as well.
“Look, it’s a club that’s got some real issues, but I don’t think a change at managerial level and adding more turmoil is the answer.
“As unhappy as the fans are, they’ve got to see that they’ve got to keep some thread of stability there.
“If it was to bring in another group and then more pressure in the January window, you could risk really getting into a very serious spiral.
“Somebody has got to be very careful and it needs experienced people at the top. All they’ve got is an interim chairman right now and no chief executive.

“That’s where they should be focusing as much as anything else right now.
“I hope they get the right people because they need it.”
