Rangers backed to accept Connor Goldson offer – Alan Hutton

Rangers could accept an offer for Connor Goldson this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed that Goldson, 31, could depart Ibrox in the off-season after losing his spot in the starting line-up.

Reportedly, Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq are keen on bringing both Goldson and James Tavernier, who are both under contract until 2026, to Saudi Arabia this summer, with Philippe Clement admitting they would “cost a lot of money”.

Goldson has not played a minute of the Gers’ last two matches in all competitions with Leon Balogun taking his place, but captain Tavernier remains a prolific mainstay for the Glasgow giants.

Connor Goldson to leave Rangers this summer?

Hutton believes that Tavernier would likely remain at the club but suggested that Goldson could be sacrificed this summer.

“I think they are both invested in Rangers,” he told Football Insider.

“But money will talk at the end of the day.

“We will have to see what happens at the end of the season, but Tavernier has spoken about being at the club for many years to come.

“There’s talks of a testimonial coming up and you rarely see players stay at a club for that long.

“Tavernier’s numbers are astonishing when you look at them on paper.

“He has two years left and I think he will stay.

“Goldson is an interesting one.

“He’s been there for a long period of time and the last few weeks haven’t gone to plan for him.

“He has played a lot of football and he very rarely misses a match.

“It would be interesting to see if an offer comes in for him, but Rangers could accept it.”
