Rangers backed to agree Michael Beale deal after source's talks update today - expert

Michael Beale is the “standout” candidate for the Rangers manager’s job, according to Alan Hutton.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Rangers and Scotland full-back insisted Beale knows what it takes to be a winning manager at Ibrox after working under Steven Gerrard.

The Gers sacked Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Monday (21 November) after he oversaw the worst group campaign in Champions League history and guided the club to nine points behind Celtic going into the World Cup break.

Sources told Football Insider on Tuesday (22 November) that Beale is the club’s top target with Ross Wilson headed to London for talks with candidates.

QPR will not stand in his way if he decides to move after he turned down Wolves last month.

“For me, at this moment in time, I think Michael Beale is the standout with the likes of Kevin Muscat and Sean Dyche being mentioned,” Hutton told Football Insider

“He’s gone out on his own at QPR and done a good job so far.

“He’s turned down the Wolves job, is that because possibly the Rangers job was coming up? Possibly, I’m not so sure.

“He knows the club, he knows what it’s all about, he’s felt the pressure and what it takes to be a winning manager there.

“I think at this moment in time, he’s the standout candidate for me.

“I’d like to see him in that hot seat, I think he’d do a good job.”

Sources told Football Insider on Monday (21 November) that Dyche would be “very keen” to talk to Rangers about the job.

The 51-year-old has been out of work since leaving Burnley in April.
