Rangers backed to complete centre-back signing as Filip Helander ‘will go’ – expert
Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers will sign a centre-back this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said that fifth choice centre-back Filip Helander “will go” at the end of the season.
Helander, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season and has been told by the Glasgow giants that he is free to find a new club.
The defender’s time at Ibrox has been plagued by injury and he has been sidelined for the entirety of the 2023-24 season with a long-term foot issue.
Michael Beale already has four senior central defenders within his ranks including first choice Connor Goldson, as well as summer arrival John Souttar.
But when asked if the Light Blues will still be looking to add to their defensive ranks, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think they still will.
“It is probably an area Michael Beale will look to strengthen.
“It is always going to be Goldson plus one other.
“Davies has come onto a game, it has taken him a bit of time, after that there is Leon King, Helander who will go and Souttar, who I really like as a football but can he stay fit for a prolonged period of time? That is the big question mark above him.

“I think Michael Beale will look to bring in another centre-half. He has spoken about it as well, there is an option for him to go three at the back if he really wants.
“I think adding in another centre-back to provide competition is something that he will look to do.“
