Rangers board devastated by ‘huge blow’ – sources
Rangers chiefs have been left devastated after the Scottish Premiership lost automatic qualification for the Champions League, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the development will affect the Gers’ transfer plans in future windows.
Both Celtic and Rangers will now wait to discover their qualification fate before making big-money moves in the summer window.
Scotland have dropped out of the Uefa’s top ten coefficient rankings following poor performance in Europe in recent seasons.
As a result, the Scottish Premiership winners will lose out on automatic qualification for the Champions League league phase from the 2025-26 campaign.
Devastating Rangers development to transform Ibrox transfer plans
Rangers will be given a lifeline if they win the league next season due to their good European displays in recent years, which should allow them to proceed to the Champions League league phase in the 2025-26 campaign.
But in future seasons, league winners will need to overcome a playoff tie – with Scotland projected to drop to 16th in the coefficient ranking by the 2026-27 campaign.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that directors on the Rangers board see the devastating development as a “huge blow”.

Champions League league phase qualification is worth a minimum of £20million to Scottish clubs.
This season, Rangers fell against PSV Eindhoven at the play-off stage and dropped into the Europa League – where they were eliminated at the Round of 16 phase.
In other news, Fulham, Sheffield United and Southampton plot raids to sign Ibrox star.
