Rangers board 'panicking' after '24 hour' Gerrard update from Sky - Campbell
The Rangers board “are panicking” at the prospect of Steven Gerrard leaving for Aston Villa.
That is the view of former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the looming threat of Gerrard returning to the Premier League to manager Villa.
This site revealed on Wednesday morning that Villa are confident of appointing the 41-year-old by Sunday after exclusively breaking the news at 3pm yesterday that Gerrard was ready to tell the Rangers board he wants to quit for the Midlands.
According to Sky Sports this afternoon, the Midlands clubs will accelerate their efforts to secure Dean Smith’s replacement “in the next 24 to 48 hours.”
However, Campbell believes the ex-Liverpool captain could yet U-turn on a move.
“I can’t see Gerrard leaving halfway through a season,” he told Football Insider. “He’s too loyal.

“I think he’ll stay there until the end of the season. Villa are a massive club, don’t get me wrong, but I just can’t see it.
“The Rangers board will be very worried. I’m sure they’re panicking, big time. They do not want their manager to be leaving.
“If I’m honest though, I think they will understand who is managing their football club. They will know that he is going to be coveted.
“The more success he has in Scotland, the more teams that will want him. Will Villa really push the boat out for him?”
