Rangers board savaged after Ibrox chaos update – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has slammed the “very worrying” lack of “transparency” from Rangers chiefs like chairman John Bennett as the Ibrox situation continues.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the lack of leadership “leaves a vacuum for conjecture and rumours”.
Rangers confirmed last month they could be unable to start the new season at Ibrox, with development on the Copland Stand set to take longer than expected due to material shipping delays.
The Scotsman reported (3 July) that the Glasgow giants remain in talks to play their games at Hampden Park and Murrayfield.
It is claimed Hampden is the preferred venue to host both league and European games despite the need to re-seed the playing surface after recent concerts.
Rangers will host at least two league fixtures at home in August, with at least one Champions League qualifier also set to come to Glasgow.
Wyness ‘very worried’ as senior Rangers figures told to speak out
Wyness claimed kicking off the season at Ibrox with only three stands functioning should also be an option for the Gers.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “We still haven’t had any comment from the board, and that’s disappointing.
“I did urge them to show a bit of transparency.
“There are some worrying dates coming up. Things have got to be resolved.
“Two big friendlies are coming up, with Ajax and Man United at Murrayfield.
“It’s not great to play your games in a different city, and that looks like where they will have to start.
“I don’t know why they can’t just kick off with three sides of the stadium functioning. That would make the most sense.
“I don’t see why that can’t be done.
“That should be the preference, but it’s not. And we’re not being told, for some reason.
“We’re not being told what needs to be done, and that leaves a vacuum for conjecture and rumours.

“Glasgow is the greatest city in the world for football rumours. The whole picture is very muddy at the moment.
“We need someone senior at Rangers to stand up and show there is a plan, because it’s very worrying and very muddy at the moment.”
