Rangers board ‘should be held accountable’ after source’s Ryan Kent reveal – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has claimed it would be “criminal” for Rangers to let Ryan Kent leave on a free next summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said the board should be “held accountable” if the 25-year-old leaves for nothing.

The winger has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Ibrox but has failed to reach an agreement over a new deal.

On Saturday (1 October), sources told this site that Kent has rejected a lucrative new contract offer as he sets his sights on a move to the Premier League.

Kent wants to run down his contract in the hope of a cut-price move in January or a free transfer in the summer.

McAvennie said the Light Blues can’t let him leave for nothing.

I don’t know if he’ll get a move to the Premier League,” he told Football Insider.

Do I think he’s good enough? Yes. But he’s not consistent enough. They’ll want big money for him.

He might get one of the teams in the bottom half of the league coming in for him. Look, he won’t get any offers from the teams up the top because he doesn’t do it enough. He always has a good game in Europe, and that’ll interest people. But as I say stats are everything nowadays. They’ll look at his stats and see he doesn’t always do it.

Rangers

Could he play in the Premier League? Of course he could but will anyone come in for him? I don’t know. Somebody could take a chance.

It would be a criminal shame and the board should be held accountable if they let him go for nothing. It will be suicide for Rangers if they let him go for nothing because it wouldn’t be right.

In other news, sources told this site that Rangers are confident of £4m Joe Aribo windfall as new details emerge.
