‘Very good player with huge potential’ – Caixinha blown away by Rangers rising star

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has stated that attacking midfielder Josh Windass has “huge potential” but needs to have more faith in his abilities ahead of the upcoming Scottish Premiership canpaign.

The 23-year-old has performed well during the friendly against Watford and most recently made his way onto the scoresheet with Kenny Miller against Sheffield Wednesday during Gers’ 2-0 win on Sunday.

The Hull-born midfielder played on the left hand side in a four man midfield during both of the friendly matches and his talent has impressed the Portuguese boss.

When speaking to RangersTV the manager stated that he wants more from Windass but has been blown away by what he has to offer.

“Josh is a nice boy and a very good player, with huge potential,” Caixinha told the official website. “We just need to work with him on the mental side in order for him to have more self confidence and to believe more in himself.

“We’re looking for him to have a more regular state of play and we want more from him.

“He played more in the wide area and I think it suits him better changing the pattern of playing wide and helping inside, playing between the lines and more connections with the strikers and central midfielders.

“That is what Josh can give to us and he is doing really well and is going to help us definitely and will make sure that the team and squad is more competitive by having more options for us.”

Windass will face a tough fight for a regular first-team spot next season as he is up against the likes of new signings Carlos Pena, Graham Dorrans, Ryan Jack in addition to Jason Holt.

Rangers will travel to Fir Park on Sunday for the club’s opening game of the season against Motherwell.

In other Rangers news, they are ready to push the button on two new signings.
