Rangers braced for Goldson to now quit after confirmed Souttar news – pundit

Rangers are “looking at life after Connor Goldson” and he could go this month, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after Rangers confirmed they had agreed a pre-contract deal with John Souttar of Hearts.

The Ibrox giants confirmed last Friday (14 January) Souttar will move to the club when his Hearts contract expires at the end of the summer.

The Jam Tarts released a statement on the same day insisting Souttar would only make the switch this month if they received a “significant and satisfactory offer”.

Goldson is out of contract at the end of the season and there does not seem to be any progression over a new deal.

The Daily Record reported at the end of last month (31 December) Rangers were preparing fresh talks with the 29-year-old.

He has remained a key player under Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox and has not missed a minute of action under the new boss.

“Players move on, it’s football,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I’m sure Rangers and Connor Goldson will have a good relationship when he does leave.

“Sometimes you just can’t agree a contract and there’s no negotiation, you move on.

“They are looking at life after Goldson, definitely, and he could go this month if Souttar comes in.”

Goldson has played 194 times across all competitions for the Glasgow giants, scoring 17 goals and providing seven assists in the process.

He was an ever-present in the league last term as the Gers lifted a historic 55th title after an unbeaten season.
