Rangers can’t match Celtic spending power as multi-million bid rejected – Hutton

Celtic will spend more money than Rangers this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said the guaranteed Champions League money will allow the Hoops to splash the cash to land top targets.

The Light Blues have already spent around £3million on bringing Atalanta forward Sam Lammers to the club this summer.

On Monday (3 July), Football Insider revealed that Michael Beale’s side are also closing in on a £4.5m deal for Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers.

Another target for Beale’s forward line is Feyenoord’s Danilo and the Gers have reportedly seen their opening £3.5m bid rejected by the Dutch club.

Feyenoord value the Brazilian at the £7m mark and are set to continue talks with the Light Blues.

But Hutton suggested Rangers are unable to meet such a high asking price.

I think it is very difficult for Rangers to go out and splash that sort of money at this moment in time,” he told Football Insider.

I think if Celtic have a top target around that valuation they could probably meet it knowing that they are definitely in the Champions League.

They have got that money coming in and Rangers are not quite there yet so it is more of a risk.

Michael Beale will have two or three options for each position that he wants to bring in and then it is about can he get his top target, if not they move on.

In other news, Kieran Maguire cites Rangers as Newcastle United fans complain at £30m deal.
