Rangers player ratings v Celtic: Four players 8/10 in disappointing defeat

COMMENT

Rangers’ title hopes came to an end at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon after falling to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The Gers had hoped to close the gap on their bitter rivals to three points with a win but now find themselves nine points behind with Celtic having a game in hand.

The Gers took an early lead through Josh Windass when the Englishman capitalised on Dedryck Boyata’s mistake before surging forward and firing beyond Scott Bain.

The frenetic start continued when Celtic’s Tom Rogic levelled the scores after 15 minutes with a fantastic long-range strike that left Wes Foderingham clutching at air.

Despite quickly conceding an equaliser, Graeme Murty’s side remained on the front foot and out the visitor’s defence under pressure.

Their pressure paid off after 25 minutes when Daniel Candeias rifled a low shot beyond Bain from Declan John’s cross and re-establish the Gers’ lead.

As the first-half wore on Celtic started putting the Gers under more pressure as they tried to find an equaliser before the break.

Moussa Dembele finally pulled his side level right on half-time when he got on the end of a long ball forward and dinked it over Foderingham.

The second-half burst into life when Jozo Simunovic was sent off for a deliberate elbow on Alfredo Morelos after 56 minutes.

Despite being down to ten, the defending champions made it 3-2 through Odsonne Edouard when the French striker curled one home from the edge of the area.

After taking the lead, the Parkhead side looked to choke the game and sit deep to see the game out.

Morelos really should have levelled the scored in the final few minutes when the ball fell to him a yard from goal but he could only steer it onto the post.
