Kieran Maguire: James Bisgrove ‘jumping for joy’ as lucrative Rangers news confirmed

James Bisgrove and the rest of the Rangers commercial department will be able to “name their price” when it comes to hospitality packages on Champions League nights.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers’ first qualification for the group stages of Europe’s premier club competition in over a decade.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side beat PSV Eindhoven 1-0 on Wednesday (24 August) to seal a 3-2 aggregate win and passage to the group stages.

As confirmed by Uefa the following day, Rangers will face Ajax, Liverpool and Napoli in Group A.

Rangers’ run to the final of the Europa League in 2021-22 helped Bisgrove smash his £28million commercial revenue target for the season.

And Maguire forecasts that the commercial department will have spied new revenue opportunities ahead of the return of Champions League nights to Ibrox.

“Rangers can make more money in the group stages of the Champions League than they did in getting to the final of the Europa League last season,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“This is good for their coefficient and Scotland’s coefficient. I would be jumping for joy if I was part of the Rangers’ commercial department.

“They will effectively be able to name their own prices for hospitality packages for these group games.

I would also hope they keep standard prices low for fans who have followed the club through thick and thin.”
