Report: Rangers close to agreeing transfer with Chelsea, big money will be spent to seal deal
By Alex Stevens
Chelsea are close to signing Rangers wonderkid Billy Gilmour, according to a report.
The Mirror claim the Premier League leaders are hoping to tie up a deal with the Scottish big hitters for the highly rated young playmaker, 15.
It is said that Chelsea are on the verge of agreeing a deal for Gilmour and “are ready to spend big” by the standards of youth-team football to push through the transfer.
Gilmour is rated as one of the outstanding talents produced by Scottish football in the last 20 years and is being tracked by leading Premier League and European clubs.
Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Manchester City are among those keen to prise the attacking midfielder from the Scottish Premiership outfit.

Ex-Rangers manager Mark Warburton pleaded with Gilmour to ignore the attention from Premier League clubs and develop his game at Ibrox.
Chelsea have signed some of the world’s top young talent over the last decade but most end up being loaned back out or sold on for a profit rather than break into the club’s first team.
Football Insider verdict:
One thing is for certain. If Gilmour is indeed on the verge of joining Chelsea, he has little chance of making it as a first teamer at the club. History tells us that the vast number of top young talents produced or signed by the Premier League giants during the Roman Abramovich era either rot in the reserves or end up carving out a career away from Stamford Bridge. That is not to say Gilmour can’t develop his game in the Chelsea academy, or go on to become a top-level player, but the chances of him doing so for the senior side are remote, to say the least.
