Rangers coaches convinced Aribo can 'explode' next season - Sources

Rangers coaches are convinced Joe Aribo can explode into a consistent matchwinner next season, Football Insider understands.

The versatile midfielder, 24, is a key member of Steven Gerrard’s side and displayed glimpses of star quality during his two seasons at the club.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Steven Gerrard and his staff believe Aribo can make an even bigger impact next season and could be one of the outstanding stars in Scottish football.

This season’s title-chasing campaign has been built on the consistent excellence of the likes of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Steven Davis and Ryan Kent.

Aribo has overcome an early-season ankle injury to establish himself as a key player in midfield.

Operating mainly in an advanced central midfield role, he combines the play and is a regular scorer and creator of goals.

The former Charlton man has made 18 league starts among 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and supplying three assists.

But Gerrard and his staff believe there is plenty more to come from a player they regard highly.

The sources point out there is a feeling Aribo can “explode” in a team that is increasingly geared to his talents and ability on the ball.

Football Insider columnist and Celtic legend Frank McAvennie is among those who believe the six-times Nigeria international is an outstanding talent.

Aribo was lured from Charlton on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 after his contract had expired.

He has played 75 times for the Light Blues, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists.
