Rangers confirmed line-up v Aberdeen: Senior duo axed

By Amir Mir

Rangers have made two changes to the side that takes on Aberdeen in a crucial Scottish Premiership showdown on Sunday afternoon.

The Gers drew their last encounter 0-0 when they were held at seventh-placed Kilmarnock.

Now, manager Pedro Caixinha has opted to bring in Kenny Miller and Jon Toral for this match, with senior duo, Andy Halliday and Barrie McKay axed.

Here is the club’s official Twitter account announcing the team news:

Rangers will be looking to close the 12-point gap on second-placed Aberdeen, who could all but seal that spot with three points on home soil.

Youngsters David Bates and Myles Beerman keep their place in the starting XI as Caixinha names an unchanged defence.

The recently-appointed Portuguese coach has been in charge of three matches since he joined the Glasgow giants in March.

He picked up a morale-boosting 4-0 win at home to Hamilton in his first game but has since settled for two draws against Motherwell and Kilmarnock.

After failing to score in their last fixture, Caixinha will be hoping the front three of Martyn Waghorn, Miller and Joe Garner can produce the goods.

Their opponents come into this match on the back of some impressive wins, including thumping Dundee 7-0 at the end of March.

The Dons have secured five wins on the bounce in the league and Scottish cup, where they are yet to concede a goal.
