Rangers could accept James Tavernier offer amid Turkish update today – sources

Rangers could look to cash in on captain James Tavernier once the transfer window re-opens in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed January could be the Glasgow club’s last chance to command a large fee for the 32-year-old with his contract due to expire in 2026.

Tavernier had been linked with moves to Turkish clubs Trabzonspor and Besiktas throughout the summer transfer window but sources at Ibrox have told Football Insider the right-back now looks set to stay.

Football Insider revealed (September 10) that Rangers will block an exit for James Tavernier this week as they have no opportunity to replace him.

The Turkish transfer window is set to close on Friday (September 13).

Rangers open to January James Tavernier move

Tavernier was Rangers’ top goal scorer and assist maker last season, contributing to 36 goals across all competitions for the club.

The right-back has scored an impressive 125 goals in 467 appearances for the Scottish club, captaining them to the Scottish Premier League title back in 2020-21.

It was a busy summer for Philippe Clement’s side, with experienced players Keemar Roofe, Connor Goldson, Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic, and John Lundstram all leaving the club.

Rangers currently sit in fourth place, five points behind rivals Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premier League table following their 3-0 defeat in the first Old Firm derby of the season.
