Rangers could be in line for big-money windfall after Josh Tymon approach – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Rangers may be in line for a big-money transfer windfall after making a move to sign Stoke City left-back Josh Tymon.

The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old may be seen as a replacement for Calvin Bassey or Borna Barisic.

A Rangers source told Football Insider on Tuesday (7 June) the club have registered their interest in signing Tymon this summer.

The Scottish Sun (4 June) claim Stoke value the left-back at around £5million.

Hutton admitted he would expect Tymon to play regularly at Ibrox for that kind of money.

As such, he suggested Rangers may be preparing to sell one of their current stars “for a lot of money”.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Rangers don’t tend to go and spend that kind of money and not play a player.

“You’d like to think he was he was going to be coming in to play. It will be really interesting if you think of who we’ve already got there. Somebody, you would think, would have to leave.

“Teams can never stand still. They always have to be looking forward. If one player is going to leave for a lot of money or whatever, you have to be able to bring somebody and replace them as soon as possible.

“So I think that’s how Rangers are working at this moment in time.”

Tymon played 48 times for Stoke during the 2021/22 campaign.

He contributed three goals and four assists playing primarily as a left-sided wing-back.
