Rangers could match Celtic with Malik Tillman deal after new Ibrox development – pundit
Noel Whelan has backed Rangers to sanction a permanent move for starlet Malik Tillman after his impressive start to life at Ibrox.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, drew parallels with Celtic’s permanent swoop for winger Jota, 23, after his initial loan at Parkhead.
Tillman, who is on a season-long loan from German giants Bayern Munich, notched a goal and assist in four Champions League qualifying starts as Rangers advanced to the group stage.
The midfielder has also scored once in three Scottish Premiership appearances.
As per Sky Sports (15 July), Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have an option to buy the USA international.
Tillman’s efforts to help Rangers secure Champions League progression could mean their revenue for 2022 tops £100million (as per Kieran Maguire).
Whelan suggested that money could now go towards sanctioning a permanent move for the starlet.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s started the season really well.
“He looks a really good player, a hard worker with a real end product.
“This is one player – now they’ve got the funds by qualifying for the group stages – that Rangers will be in for. It’s a no-brainer.

“It’s very much like Celtic and Jota, they’re similar sort of players with the quality they bring. It’d be money well spent.
“Rangers have already had a picture of what he’d bring to the side in such a short space of time, now it’s time to get a deal done.”
