Kieran Maguire: Rangers could sign ‘special player’ as Dave King speaks out over Celtic agreement
Rangers could sign a “special player” with the funds they will generate from their friendly against Celtic in Australia later this year.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the controversial fixture scheduled for November.
The two Glasgow sides have agreed to face each other in the Sydney Super Cup, making it the first time the fierce rivals will have met outside Scotland.

Per the Daily Record last Monday (7 March), Dave King claimed the decision showed the board’s “indifference to supporter wishes and interests.”
The former chairman and major shareholder has long advocated for greater fan representation at board level.
But Maguire claims that the Sydney Super Cup is a “price worth paying” if it means Rangers can go to the next level in the transfer market.
“Both clubs want to make progress in Europe,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“If gives Rangers and Celtic better resources to invest on the pitch, it is a price worth paying.
“I can understand the reaction of the fans. They think these games are so unique that they should only take place in Scotland.
“They perhaps feel that the unique passion would be diluted by hosting it elsewhere.
“But it helps them pay wages or sign that special player who is going to make a difference, it will have been worth it.”

Supporters groups of both Rangers and Celtic have spoken out against the friendly.
Celtic currently lead the Scottish Premiership by three points after 30 matches.
