Rangers dealt 'huge' Connor Goldson blow after confirmed news - expert
Alan Hutton has insisted Connor Goldson leaves a “huge” gap in the Rangers back line after his latest injury.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender insisted Michael Beale will look to add reinforcements in central defence, regardless of Goldson’s fitness at the start of next season.
The 30-year-old was not included in the squad for Sunday’s trip to Hibernian (21 May) with an unspecified injury.
As quoted by STV (21 May), Beale confirmed the centre-back is set to be sidelined for around ten weeks with the latest problem.
Goldson is set to miss pre-season and is looking like a doubt for the Light Blues’ Champions League qualifiers that kick off at the beginning of August.
When asked if losing Goldson will be a huge blow even if Beale brings in defensive reinforcements in the upcoming window, Hutton told Football Insider: “There is no doubt about that.

“He is the vice captain, he is one of the leaders on the pitch. You can hear him roaring at his defence and his midfielders.
“He is a huge part of what Rangers do and when he plays they are a better team although I thought [John] Souttar was outstanding against Hibs, young Leon King did well, [Ben] Davies is still there.
“Goldson has to play for me, of course it will be a race to get him fit. If not I think they do have people there.
“I think Beale will be constantly monitoring it, seeing if they have to bring people in. He probably will look to add competition in the back line but he is the number one centre-back and they will want him fit for the start of next season.“
