Connor Goldson has been a pillar of consistency and quality in the Rangers defence this season – the title could not have been won without him.
That is according to ex-Premier League goalscorer Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Celtic handed the Scottish Premiership title to Rangers after a 0-0 draw with Dundee United on Sunday.
It is the club’s first top-flight triumph in a decade and 28-year-old centre-back Goldson has played a critical role for a side built on defensive solidity.
Quoted in The Scotsman, Goldson stated: “You look at the club today and it is 100 times better than the club that I joined.”
Remarkably, he is yet to miss a single minute of the league campaign and has seen his side concede just nine goals and drop only eight points across 32 matches.
Campbell lauded the work of the Rangers backline but was quick to single out Goldson for particular praise.
He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “They have been hands down the best team. The defence has been superb and Connor Goldson has been superb.
“You need continuity if you’re going to win titles. You need good players playing well week in, week out. That’s what he’s done. Without that, you can’t win anything.
“They all deserve plaudits and Connor Goldson deserves huge credit as well.”
Goldson was a £3million recruit from Brighton in June 2018.
He has taken the armband in the last three league matches in the absence of injured skipper James Tavernier.
