Alan Hutton has tipped Steven Gerrard to start Glen Kamara on the bench when Rangers play host to Dundee United on Saturday.
The former Gers and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes that the Finland ace will be given a rest after playing the full 90 minutes in both of his country’s games over the international break.
The 24-year-old came off the bench against Kilmarnock and was left unused against Hamilton in Rangers’ last two league games as he recovered from a slight knock.
Hutton suggests that while the midfield star might be closing in on full fitness again, he will be left on the bench as Gerrard looks to avoid shaking up a winning side.
“I think Rangers are in a situation where they’re playing really well,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“Defensively they’re really good, attacking-wise, arguably they’re just missing that final touch but it’s coming so I wonder if he’s just going to keep things the way they are.
“Kamara has had a lot of game time on international duty, maybe he just needs a little rest to get the freshness back in the legs so it wouldn’t surprise me if it was more or less the same team.”
Kamara played the full 90 minutes in Rangers’ opening four league games before he dropped to the bench for the last two.
Gerrard started Ryan Jack and Steven Davis in the centre of the park against Hamilton as Ianis Hagi, Ryan Jack and Brandon Barker supported Kemar Roofe up front.
In other Rangers news, Football Insider has dropped a big update on the Gers’ hopes of keeping an in-demand star.
