Alex McLeish claims its inevitable Alfredo Morelos will leave Rangers on a sour note following his freeze-out from the starting XI.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former treble-winning Ibrox manager suggested “made-up stories leaking as well” amid the gradual parting of the ways between player and club.
The Colombia international started Rangers’ first four matches of the season before being dropped from the squad against Kilmarnock and then being an unused substitute for the win over Hamilton last weekend.
Morelos, 24, saw a transfer to Lille fall through earlier in the summer but this site revealed that AC Milan have made contact about a possible move as the possibility grows he will eventually get the big-money move he seemingly craves.
McLeish told Football Insider: “Yeah, I’ve seen this before, I’ve been in dressing rooms where players want away or they’ve got the sniff of a big move to a club with more money – obviously that’s a factor in an individual’s career and nowadays, as opposed to in my days, it’s easier to get away.
“You can kick the door down, your agent can cause ructions as we’ve seen in many, many examples over the past few years and if it’s the right offer, then you know you could see
Morelos try and leave Rangers.
“Listen, that’s an individuals choice, it’s a short career and they have to do what’s best for themselves.
“When things turn a little bit sour and there starts to become some made-up stories leaking as well, generally it doesn’t turn out well.”
Morelos has been a thorn in the side of SPL and European defences during his three-and-a-bit seasons at Ibrox.
Since signing from HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017, the controversial Colombian has scored 79 goals from 142 matches in all competitions for Rangers.
In other Rangers news, Alan Hutton has told defender to join a new club as Ibrox terms agreed.
