Rangers expect Sheyi Ojo to be a consistent matchwinner in the new year, Football Insider has learned.
The on-loan Liverpool winger has had a hit-and-miss start to life at Ibrox since joining in the summer and this has frustrated many supporters expecting him to be as effective as Ryan Kent.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the coaching staff are confident Ojo will be a real force when he has more games under his belt.
One said the 22-year-old will be “dynamite” after Christmas once he has fully settled and has gained enough experience to improve his decision-making.
Ojo has occasionally flickered in the Light Blues shirt, most notably with his magnificent winning goal in the 1-0 Europa League win over Feyenoord.
He has scored five goals and supplied four assists from 17 matches so far, a ratio of key contributions equivalent to Kent during his loan last season.
The criticism from many Bears is that Ojo is wasteful and lacks Kent’s dynamism on the ball.
However, Gerrard has spoken of his faith in a player he knows well from his time at Liverpool and has insisted, “I brought him in as he can make the difference in the final third”.
Ojo has already made 15 starts this season in what has been comfortably the longest run of matches in his stop-start senior career.
The wide man became the third Liverpool player to be loaned to Rangers in two seasons when he followed 2018-19 loanees Kent and Ovie Ejaria to Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that Celtic want to blow them away and block bid to take English-club striker to Ibrox.
