Rangers expected XI v Aberdeen: Senior player axed in three changes
Rangers manager Graeme Murty is expected to name a new-look starting XI when the Gers welcome Aberdeen to Ibrox on Wednesday night in the Scottish Premiership
Murty is expected to make three changes to the side that started their last competitive game – December’s 0-0 draw with Celtic – with new signings Russell Martin, Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy likely be thrown in for Bruno Alves, Ross McCrorie and veteran Niko Kranjcar.
Senior player Kranjcar is expected to be axed due to his poor performances in the Florida Cup and the influx of new players.
A win over the Dons will see the Light Blues go second in the Scottish Premiership on goal difference as they look to secure second-place and close the gap on runaway leaders Celtic.
Wes Foderingham is expected to remain in goals behind a back four of James Tavernier, Martin, Danny Wilson and Declan John.
Midfielder Jason Holt could retain his place in midfield with injuries ruling Graham Dorrans, Ross McCrorie and Ryan Jack out while on-loan midfielder Sean Goss is expected to partner him in the engine-room.
Portuguese flyer Daniel Candeias should continue down the right flank with another new signing, Jamie Murphy, on the opposite side as they look to exploit Aberdeen’s full-backs.
Josh Windass and Alfredo Morelos are expected to lead the line for the Gers after their impressive form before the winter break and during the trip to Florida to face Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro in the Florida Cup.
With Jason Cummings arriving at the club, there is more competition for places in attack with the former Hibs man expected to be an important part of Murty’s side.
