Rangers expected to accept £4m Kemar Roofe offer after journalist’s update – expert

Alan Hutton has claimed Rangers will want to get back the money they spent on Kemar Roofe if he leaves the club this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gers defender suggested Roofe’s injury problems could prevent him from getting regular game time at the Ibrox club.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, reported in The Sun (25 July), Sheffield Wednesday are targeting a move for the 29-year-old.

Roofe currently has two years left on his contract with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

He joined Rangers in 2020 from RSC Anderlecht for a fee of around £4.5million.

When asked how much the Glasgow club would be looking for to let Roofe leave, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think they’ll want to get back if not all, then most of the money that they spent on him.

I don’t think the manager wants to weaken the side. I think he probably sees there’s competition all over the pitch at the moment.

The problem with Kemar Roofe is, there’s no doubting his talent, he just gets so many injuries. So the question is can he last a season or play ten games in a row. At this moment in time I don’t think so.

Rangers

I really like him as a player, I like how he plays the game and how he sees the game, it’s just the injury problems.

So if there was an opportunity to recoup the money that they spent on him I think they’d be willing to listen to that offer.”
