Rangers expert backs rule change as controversial Antonio Colak footage re-analysed
Alan Hutton has suggested the handball rule should be “tweaked” after Rangers conceded a penalty against Partick Thistle.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said the rules which saw Antonio Colak give away a penalty against Partick Thistle last weekend are “annoying”.
As shown on Viaplay Sports (12 February), Thistle’s Kevin Holt struck a header inside the box that hit Colak’s arm from incredibly close range.
Referee David Munro did not initially award the spot kick but was instructed by VAR official Steven Kirkland to have another check of the incident.
After consulting the pitchside monitor, the referee awarded the penalty and the Championship side went 1-0 in front.
The Light Blues came back from a goal down to win the game 3-2.
When asked for his assessment of the incident, Hutton told Football Insider: “It is starting to get annoying now.
“You actually use your arms to get off the ground and jump. He has tried to follow the ball, he has turned round and it has been headed back onto his hand.

“Yes it is slightly out from his body but there is physically nothing he can do to change where his arm is at. I think that is where you need consistency, you need a little bit of common sense.
“Of course I understand the rule, if it is away from your body and hits your arm it is a penalty but I think the rule could be tweaked. It is a real grey area at this moment in time.“
