Rangers expert hails ‘brilliant Celtic fans’ in ‘amazing’ claim

Celtic and Rangers won’t resolve their ticket issues “any time soon”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said there is “nothing better” than an full allocation of away fans at derby matches.

Before 2018, the Hoops were entitled to the entire 7500-capacity Broomloan stand at Ibrox, with their rivals receiving the same amount of tickets at Parkhead.

But following a length period of Celtic dominance, the allocation was cut to just 700 tickets for Hoops fans, with the Gers entitled to the same in the reverse fixture.

Last season, due to safety concerns, the Hoops opted to no longer take up any seats at Ibrox due to fan safety concerns, with their rivals being locked out of the Old Firm clash at Parkhead.

The Light Blues offered Celtic a similar allocation for the upcoming derby at Ibrox in September but the Celts have refused, once again citing safety concerns with their desire being to return to full allocations in both ends of Glasgow.

When asked what he made of the Celts refusing to take up the ticket allocation, Hutton told Football Insider: It depends what their concerns are.

I understand that fan safety is at the forefront of everyone’s mind, they want people to go to the game and enjoy it, enjoy the spectacle and I think it adds to it. There is nothing better.

I think back to when I was playing and the Broomloan was full of Celtic fans and it was brilliant. The atmosphere was amazing, you had the rivalry. But safety is key.

It has been grumbling on for a long period of time now and I just look now from a fan’s point of view and it makes it better. I can’t see it being fixed any time soon, it is just a real shame for the game.
