Rangers expert issues 'massive' claim ahead of showdown
Rangers could face Ajax in the Champions League while still “shattered” from their Old Firm loss.
That’s according to ex-Gers boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after a dismal Old Firm showing.
Rangers were beaten 4-0 at Celtic Park as they fell five points behind the league leaders.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are next in action against Ajax on Wednesday (7 September) as they return to the Champions League group stage for the first time in a decade.
McLeish fears the effect the Old Firm loss may have on the game.
“That’s you want to do as a player, speaking as a former player myself, you want to atone for a bad performance,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“At the same time, these things can be little niggles that stay in your head. The confidence can get shattered by a defeat as bad as that.
“There is nothing like a massive Champions League game. I think there will be more of a strategy for this game than there was for the Celtic game.
“On Saturday it just looked like two teams going for each other but one team was better than the other, and that was clearly Celtic on the day.
“Rangers didn’t get the penetration, Celtic stayed quite deep.
“But two big games against Liverpool and Ajax coming up, they have to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
