Rangers expert issues ‘massive’ Ryan Kent verdict after source’s contract reveal

Alan Hutton has suggested Ryan Kent could be convinced to sign a new Rangers contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender insisted new boss Michael Beale was able to get the best out of Kent during his last spell at the club.

The 26-year-old had one of his best seasons when Beale was working under manager Steven Gerrard in the 2020-21 season.

He scored 13 goals and provided 15 assists across his 52 appearances and helped the Light Blues to their first league title in ten years.

But the winger has been lacklustre this season, with just one goal in 22 appearances across all competitions.

On Monday (28 November), sources told this site that Beale’s appointment will have no bearing on Kent’s contract talks after failing to accept an extension.

The wide man is out of contract at the end of the season and tying him down to a new deal does not look likely.

When asked if a good start under Beale could change Kent’s mind, Hutton told Football Insider:I do not see why not.

Ryan Kent’s stats this year have not been good enough. I think he would be the first one to tell you that.

The best season that he had was when Rangers won the league under Steven Gerrard and Mick Beale. They managed to get the best out of him and he will be hoping to do the same again.

Rangers

He will know it is a massive issue. Ryan Kent is one of Rangers’ top players and they will want to sign him down to a long-term deal.

That will be one of his jobs, to first and foremost get the best out of him and convince him to stay.”
