Rangers expert lambasts ‘reckless’ star as controversial Fashion Sakala footage analysed
Former Rangers man Alan Hutton has slammed Anthony Stewart’s “reckless” tackle on Fashion Sakala.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gers defender said Stewart can have no complaints about his sending off.
As shown on Viaplay Sports (15 January), the Aberdeen skipper was shown a straight red card for a wild challenge on Sakala in injury time of the League Cup semi-final.
Referee Nick Walsh did not hesitate to show Stewart the red card and despite protests from the Aberdeen players he was forced back down the tunnel.
The Dons went on to lose the game 2-1 in extra time after a goal from Kemar Roofe sealed the victory for the Light Blues.
As quoted by the Scotsman after the game, Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin insisted his side had “no arguments” with the decision and believe the officials got it right.
Hutton also agreed with the officials and couldn’t understand Stewart’s decision.
“It is a red card for me,” he told Football Insider.

“I think it was a silly decision from Stewart. If you look at the incident, Sakala is going nowhere, he is running towards to corner flag, it is at a point in the game where you can’t make silly mistakes like that.
“It was reckless, the force that was behind it, so it could have been a lot worse. There can’t really be any complaints and it was a straight red.“
In other news, according to sources, Rangers have agreed Todd Cantwell fee and have medical lined up.
