Rangers expert makes Asmir Begovic signing claim after second bid news
Alan Hutton has urged Rangers against signing Asmir Begovic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender insisted they need someone younger than their current options to help build the team moving forward.
Last month (29 December), journalist Alex Crook reported that the Light Blues are interested in signing the 35-year-old in the summer.
According to Sky Sports (23 January), Everton rejected a loan bid from Cristiano Ronaldo’s club Al Nassr for the goalkeeper and are expected to return with a second offer in the coming days.
Begovic is out of contract in the summer after joining the Toffees in 2021 on a free transfer.
First choice keeper Allan McGregor turns 41 at the end of this month and is out of contract in the summer after signing a one year extension in June.
Michael Beale’s other options between the sticks include Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie who have not enjoyed as much game time as the Ibrox veteran.
Hutton urged Rangers away from signing another aging keeper.
“Begovic has got lots of experience behind him, he can handle the situation of being at Rangers and being number one,” he told Football Insider.
“But personally I would like to see them bring somebody in who has got experience but of a younger age, somebody that is going to be the number one for a number of years to come.
“A team that you can build around about them, I think that is what they need as well.

“Allan McGregor, as fantastic as he has been, is coming to the end. Jon McLaughlin has had plenty of opportunities. Even though he has come in and done well I think he needs competition. McCrorie we have hardly seen.
“For me, moving forward for the future of Rangers, they need to bring in somebody of a decent age that they can rely on for a number of years.“
