Rangers expert makes ‘massive’ claim after crushing development
Alan Hutton has claimed Michael Beale’s hopes of silverware at Rangers this season rest on the Scottish Cup.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said the Scottish Cup is “massive” for the club after narrowly losing out on the League Cup to Celtic.
Michael Beale’s side were beaten 2-1 in the Viaplay Cup final by their Glasgow rivals, missing out on the first piece of silverware this season.
Rangers are currently nine points behind the Hoops in the Scottish top flight with just 12 games before the end of the season.
The Celts are also closing in on the Ibrox club’s overall trophy tally and could move one behind if they win both the league and the Scottish Cup.
Thanks to a narrow 3-2 win over Partick Thistle on 12 February, the Light Blues now face Raith Rovers in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup competition on 12 March.
Hutton insisted the cup is hugely important for the Gers.
“I think all the eggs are in the one basket now if you really look at it,” he told Football Insider.
“The league as it sits at the moment, it is going to be very difficult to claw that back. So the Scottish cup is massive for Rangers at the moment.

“They have got the easier tie at home to Raith Rovers, Celtic have got a difficult one away to Hearts. So there is an opportunity there for Beale to get silverware in his first stint back at Rangers.
“Unfortunate about the League Cup but I think the Scottish Cup is even more important now.“
