Rangers expert: Michael Beale issues Ibrox ‘board’ plea amid Celtic ‘power’ claim
Alan Hutton has suggested Michael Beale is playing “mind games” with Celtic and the Rangers board.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender suggested Beale’s recent comments about the Hoops’ spending could be an attempt to urge to board to spend more money this month.
Speaking to the BBC (21 January), the Light Blues boss defended previous comments calling Ange Postecoglou a “lucky man” for the money he has been able to spend at Parkhead.
Beale claimed that Postecoglou has spent more money in the last 12 months that Steven Gerrard was able to spend in three and a half years.
The Bears boss said his side won’t spend as much as the Hoops this month and claimed the Ibrox club’s rivals “spend the most in the country”.
When asked for his assessment of Beale’s comments, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think it is just a little bit of mind games.
“Celtic are nine points in front, it seems like everybody they bring in hits the ground running and does really well.
“Maybe a case of that or maybe it is a little cry to the board to say Celtic are strengthening, they are in a place of power at the moment and if we want to get to that level then we need to spend.

“It could be a little bit of both of those things.
“I understand it, it always goes on in football especially when you are chasing Celtic down. I get what he is saying but I understand why Celtic are probably getting a bit annoyed with it.“
