Rangers expert reveals only one thing holding back Barisic move to Leeds

Borna Barisic’s defensive lapses remain the “only question mark” around his move to Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed the Rangers full-back was very strong in attack, but feared his ability to handle Championship forwards.

The 31-year-old, whose contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the season, has been widely linked with a switch to Elland Road this month.

He has struggled to nail down a spot under Philippe Clement, but the Gers are reportedly attempting to tie him down on fresh terms to avoid losing him cheaply this month or for free in the summer.

Hutton claimed that the Croatian would be a good fit for Daniel Farke’s style, but had reservations regarding his ability to play in the English second tier.

“I can tell you this, it’s 100 per cent that Barisic would fit in with the style perfectly at Leeds,” he told Football Insider.

“The only question mark would be about his defensive ability in the Championship.

“This is a team sitting fourth, so could he handle the defensive style that you need to play against some of the top teams?

“It’s very hard. You come up against great wingers, but there’s no doubt that he can handle it going forward.

“He can get balls into the box, he can create opportunities for others.”
