Rangers expert suggests what Clement really thinks about Dessers – ‘too nice’
Philippe Clement wants Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers to be more “ruthless” in front of goal.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton shared that Clement told him that he wants Dessers, 29, to be more of a “killer” following his inconsistencies up top.
The £4.5million man has bagged 19 goals in all competitions this term, including a Scottish Cup final-clinching brace against Hearts on Sunday (21 April).
However, he has been widely criticised by pundits and fans alike for frequently missing golden opportunities to score, making many supporters question his long-term future at Ibrox.
Philippe Clement wants Dessers to be a ‘killer’ – Hutton
Hutton claimed that Clement is “happy” with the Nigeria international’s progression this season and was confident that he would offer the Gers much more in his second campaign in Scotland.
“It was interesting when I was speaking to Clement after the [semi-final] about Dessers,” he told Football Insider.
“His numbers are good – 19 in all competitions is a good tally.
“Getting over 20 is definitely a realistic target and it would be a really good number.
“Clement spoke about how he wants Dessers to be more of a killer – more ruthless.
“Dessers is too nice at times, so he’s a work in progress.

“I think Clement will be happy at this moment in time as he knows there’s potential there and much more to come.
“But if he does continue to score these goals, then it puts Rangers in a great position for the rest of the season.”
