Rangers expert thrilled as John Lundstram offer lined up
John Lundstram is deserving of a new Rangers deal after establishing himself as a vital player for the club.
That’s according to ex-Gers boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s importance to his former side.
The Daily Record reported on Wednesday (21 September), that Lundstram is “almost certainly” going to be offered a new Rangers contract after establishing himself as a key player under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
The 28-year-old has started all 13 of the Gers’ Premiership and Champions League games this season.
When asked if Lundstram was deserving of a new deal, McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild, “Yeah. He did start slowly and I actually thought that when he came in, having watched a few of his games at Sheffield United, that he was a real trojan.
“A workhorse. He was always up and down the line whenever he played for Sheffield United. It took a while for my thoughts to sink in but it has been realised by myself and the fans that he was a tremendous acquisition.

“He has turned in many great performances, especially in that European run last year. You can’t go out and spend £10million in Scotland.
“You get someone on a free transfer and it’s fine, look at Lawrence. They come with bigger wages, of course, but when you don’t pay a transfer fee it is a good deal.”
Lundstram joined Rangers from Sheffield United on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
He made 48 appearances and scored four goals during his first season at Ibrox.
