Rangers fans fume at Malmo social media dig ahead of Europa League clash
Rangers fans have been left fuming at Malmo ahead of the club’s Europa League clash on 26 September after their latest social media antics.
The Swedish outfit took to their social channels in the buildup to Thursday’s clash as they posted a throwback video to their last two meetings alongside the caption: “Welcome back to Malmo, Rangers. We’ve missed you.”
First, their Champions League clashes from the 2011-12 season were recalled, which saw Rangers knocked out 2-1 on aggregate, with the caption: “You ended up in the fourth division.”
The video then jumped forward to 2021, when Steven Gerrard’s side were defeated 4-2 on aggregate and crashed out of the Champions League qualifying rounds.
With Thursday’s clash rapidly approaching, Malmo are confident ahead of the game and believe they can pull off another result as they have in recent history.
However, the post has angered plenty of supporters at Ibrox, who are now demanding Philippe Clement’s side better their opponents away from home.
Rangers fans rage at Malmo after social media dig emerges
Rangers’ participation in the Europa League was secured after falling to a 3-1 aggregate defeat to Dynamo Kyiv earlier this season, but they have now landed in a competition in which they have fond memories.
The last time these two sides played, in the Champions League during the 2021-22 season, Rangers reached the Europa League final, and some are hoping their next meeting will be a good omen.
However, following the taunting from their opponents’ social media, many supporters have been left raging ahead of the Europa League clash.
Many even insisted Clement’s team talk has now been given for him, while others recalled Kevin Keegan’s “I will love it if we beat them” rant.
In other news, Rangers could land a £30million windfall after deals were agreed.
