Rangers fans mock ‘clown’ Chris Sutton as Celtic VAR footage emerges

Rangers fans have bashed Sky Sports pundit Chris Sutton for his swipe at ‘Bears’ in his analysis of Celtic’s penalty in their win over Hibernian.

Rangers fans have brandished Chris Sutton as a “clown” for his take on Celtic’s late penalty in their win over Hibernian on Wednesday night (7 February).

The Hoops were moments away from giving the Gers the chance to go two points clear at the top of the table as they were level 1-1 at Easter Road in the closing stages of the clash.

However, following a VAR check, Brendan Rodgers’ side were awarded their second penalty of the game after Joe Newell fouled Kyogo Furuhashi on the edge of the penalty area.

January signing Adam Idah converted for the second time in the 92nd minute to win the game 2-1, but both penalty decisions were wrought with controversy.

Many felt Celtic’s 10th-minute penalty for a clash of heads between Alistair Johnston and Hibs’ Nectarios Trinatis should not have been awarded, while others claimed Kyogo was not in the box when he was tackled late in the game.

Regardless, Celtic hero Sutton took to social media and could not believe that fans, “mostly bears”, were arguing that both spot kicks should not have been awarded.

Rangers supporters were quick to criticise the Sky Sports pundit, and many remain confident that the Gers will still go top of the league soon despite their rival’s late win.
