'Rank rotten', '100% fraud' - Rangers fans annihilate senior player for display v St Johnstone

Rangers defender Bruno Alves was handed the captains armband in the 3-1 defeat by St. Johnstone on Saturday afternoon – and Gers fans were furious with his performance against Tommy Wright’s side, annihilating the senior player.

The Gers took an early lead through Alfredo Morelos but were pegged back quickly by the Saints.

Two second-half goals from Denny Johnstone and Graham Cummins sealed the three points for St. Johnstone as Rangers’ four-game winning streak came crashing to an abrupt end.

Alves played the full 90 minutes but never looked up to speed with the game and struggled at times with the physicality of St. Johnstone’s forwards – with one fan calling the Portuguese international a “fraud.”

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

The 94-times capped Portugal defender has been poor since joining the Gers and – despite coming with a bug reputation – has been outperformed by Danny Wilson and Ross McCrorie beside him.

Alves recently suggested he would look to leave Rangers if he wasn’t getting game time to keep alive his chances of going to next summer’s World Cup in Russia but on the strength of his performances in a Rangers jersey so far, regular game time is the least of Alves’ worries.

In other Rangers news, Barry Ferguson has urged the Gers to sign this £4million+ dynamo who is also wanted by Celtic.
