Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to hail Greg Docherty for his performance in their 6-1 Scottish Cup win against Ayr United on Sunday.

The central midfielder was handed his first start for the Light Blues and played the full 90 minutes as they overcame a poor start to ultimately overwhelm the League One side.

Alfredo Morelos and Josh Windass both scored twice, and further goals from Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings helped Rangers comfortably cancel out Alan Forrest’s shock opener at Somerset Park.

Docherty was paired in central midfield with fellow January arrival Sean Goss, who has settled in well since his loan move from Queens Park Rangers.

The former Hamilton player replaced Jason Holt in the starting XI as manager Graeme Murty made some changes from the side that beat Partick Thistle 2-0 in midweek.

The Ibrox faithful were impressed by the full debut of Docherty, and claimed on social media that he was especially effective in the second period.
