Rangers defender Aidan Wilson joined Dumbarton on an emergency loan on Friday – and Gers fans were looking forward to the youngster continuing his development.

The Gers confirmed his temporary exit via their official website on Friday.

The Scottish youth international has been on the fringes of the Ibrox first-team since making his debut last season but hasn’t made a competitive appearance yet this season for the Light Blues.

The central defender has won rave reviews for his performances in the Gers Under-20’s side and will be hoping to continue that with the Sons in the Scottish Championship.

Gers fans were hopeful the move would benefit the defender – with one saying it was a “great move” for the 19-year-old.

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Wilson came into the first-team at the tail end of last season under Pedro Caixinha and made a handful of appearances in the first-team.

The part-time Sons are currently ninth in the Scottish Championship and will be desperate to avoid finishing in the bottom two and facing potential relegation to League One.

Fellow Gers defender Ross McCrorie spent time on loan with Dumbarton last season before returning to Ibrox in the summer and forcing his way into becoming a first-team regular.

Wilson is under contract with the Gers until 2020.
