Long-time Rangers target Jamie Walker has signed for Wigan – and fans of the Glasgow club do not seem to mind in the least.

Wigan confirmed the signing of Walker from Hearts on their official Twitter account on Monday, bringing to an end a lot of speculation surrounding his next whereabouts.

The Gers pursued the winger under former boss Pedro Caixinha and bids were confirmed to have gone in for the ex-Scotland Under-21 international throughout last summer.

Caixinha’s sacking in October seems to have ended that move with new boss Graeme Murty instead opting for Brighton winger Jamie Murphy.

The Gers fans seemed happy with the decision to sign Murphy instead – with one fan saying Murphy was the “better player.”

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

The Gers made an offer for Walker before the transfer window closed in August after then-manager Pedro Caixinha watched the player in person a few times.

Hearts refused to budge on their valuation and the Gers were expected to snap up the winger on a pre-contract agreement before diverting their focus elsewhere.

The 24-year-old was out of contract in the summer and had previously made clear his intention not to sign a new deal at Tynecastle despite Hearts wanting to keep him in the capital.

Walker has made 19 appearances for the Jambos this season, scoring twice, but has failed to come anywhere near the form he showed last season.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have tabled a six-figure bid for this international attacker.
