Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to rage after Alex McLeish emerged as the new favourite to fill the Ibrox manager vacancy.

SkyBet now have McLeish, 58, priced as the 11/10 favourite after Derek McInnes’ odds drifted from evens up to 7/4 in just a matter of a couple of days.

McLeish is currently out of work and could be on his way back to Ibrox, if the bookmakers’ odds are anything to go by, to fill the void left by Pedro Caixinha after he was sacked over three weeks ago.

The Light Blues are yet to make any significant progress in their bid to replace the Portuguese, but it seems that many fans don’t want the clubs’ hunt to go in the direction of McLeish – even though he won the treble with them in 2003.

One fan even called out the board’s search for a new manager a “shambles” after the ex-Scotland boss became favourite.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

McLeish spent five years in charge of Rangers when he managed to win two Scottish league titles, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups.

Since leaving Ibrox he has had spells down south in English with Birmingham, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest before going on somewhat of a globetrotting adventure with jobs at Belgian side Genk and Egyptian giants Zamalek.

In other Rangers news, a Premier League club has joined the Light Blues in the hunt for one of their top choices.
