Rangers fans react on Twitter to Waghorn being benched v Celtic

By Dominic Toner

Rangers forward Martyn Waghorn was left on the bench against Celtic – and the club’s supporters expressed their anger on Twitter with the decision.

The 26-year-old started against Hamilton and Inverness in December, but was dropped to the bench on Wednesday for the 1-1 draw against St Johnstone.

Many people felt that the striker was being rested ahead of the game against Old Firm rivals Celtic, but manager Mark Warburton has omitted him from the starting XI once again.

Waghorn had scored two goals and supplied one assist during the matches with Hamilton and Inverness and was showing his best form of the season.

Rangers fans voiced their frustration that their in-form attacker has been left out of the starting line-up, while out of sorts Joe Garner continues to lead the line.

Waghorn has struggled to cement a starting position under Warburton and has been in and out of the team.

The English striker helped Rangers romp to the Scottish Championship title last season and is yet to have the same impact in the top-flight.

He has scored 10 goals in 19 appearances this season for the Gers, but only three of them have come in the league.

Waghorn will hope to make an impact as a substitute against Celtic and persuaded his manager of his talents.

In other Rangers team news, Chris Sutton has named the club’s consistent player in his team of the year.
