Rangers fans have lost their minds with excitement on Twitter by the news that their club is reportedly in talks with Brighton over a move for Jamie Murphy.

Sky Sports claimed on their live transfer blog on Saturday [08:55AM] that the Glasgow giants are in discussions with the Premier League side about Murphy, 28, but are yet to reach an agreement on a fee.

It is understood that Rangers are very keen on the Glasgow-born forward after the Scottish Sun reported that the former Motherwell attacker is open to the idea of returning to Scotland next month.

Murphy has been on the fringes of the Brighton squad this season since the south-coast side’s promotion to the Premier League, making just five appearances across all competitions.

The Scot, who can play as a striker or on the wings, has a lot of experience of playing in the Scottish Premiership too after spending a good chunk of his career with Motherwell before he headed south to play for Sheffield United and Brighton.

Now, Rangers fans on Twitter believe that director of football Mark Allen and manager Graeme Murty are both making very clever move to sign Murphy in the January window.

One excited fan claimed that Murphy would be an “upgrade” on current first-team star Josh Windass.

Here is a selection of their tweets:
